CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The presence of three Bharatiya Janata Party MPs at a tribute meeting for former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted in a case linked to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, has triggered a controversy.
BJP national president Nitin Naveen expressed displeasure over Delhi MPs Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Yogendra Chandolia attending the event and reprimanded them.
The three MPs had attended Sajjan Kumar’s tribute meeting the previous day. After their visit, questions began to be raised both within and outside the party. Senior lawyer HS Phoolka, who has long fought legal battles for victims of the anti-Sikh riots, also objected to the MPs’ presence at the programme. He even demanded a boycott of the three MPs on social media.
Taking serious note of the matter, BJP president Nitin Naveen summoned the three MPs and sought their explanation. The party leadership’s move makes it clear that the issue linked to Sajjan Kumar is both politically sensitive and sensitive in broader terms for the BJP.
