CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: At the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), a blood donation camp was organized on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent Ahmedabad plane crash. The event was a joint initiative by students from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA).

In this noble camp, 122 doctors donated blood as a heartfelt tribute.

It is noteworthy that World Blood Donor Day is observed every year by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is considered one of the greatest humanitarian days. This year’s theme was:

“Give blood, give hope, join the effort and save lives.”

The day is dedicated to Dr. Karl Landsteiner, whose birth anniversary is commemorated on this date. He discovered the blood group system (A, B, AB, O), a breakthrough that revolutionized blood transfusion practices.

On this occasion, Dr. Manisha Srivastava, Acting Director of BMHRC, said:

“The Ahmedabad plane crash is a heartbreaking tragedy. In times like these, we must serve humanity—and what better way than donating blood. This camp is a tribute to those lost, and a reminder that even one step from us can impact someone’s life. Each donation brings hope to patients battling fatal diseases, undergoing surgery, or fighting illness. This day honors every selfless donor who saves lives without expecting anything in return.”

Dr. Rajesh Gaur, Dean of People’s Medical College, said:

“There’s no greater service to society than saving a life. Everyone should voluntarily step forward and donate blood regularly.”

Blood donors were also felicitated at BMHRC for their invaluable contribution. The event was attended by:

Dr. Anurag Yadav, In-charge Medical Superintendent

Dr. Seema Naved

Officials, staff, and students from the institute
