CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Government of India has set a target to make the country TB-free by the year 2025, and the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) is playing an active role in achieving this national objective.

As part of this initiative, BMHRC has launched a Directly Observed Treatment, Short-Course (DOTS) Center at its Health Centre No. 5, located in Ginnori.

The center was inaugurated by Manisha Srivastava, Director-in-Charge of BMHRC. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Lalit Kumar, Head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Professor Mahesh Rathore, Health Centre Coordinator Dr. Roma Rastogi, and District TB Officer Pranjal Khare.

With the establishment of this DOTS Center, gas-affected residents and TB patients in Ginnori and surrounding communities will now have regular, free, and quality treatment services close to home.

This center will not only provide medicines but also ensure supervised drug intake, follow-up, and counseling, helping patients recover fully and on time.

This initiative marks a significant contribution by BMHRC under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).

On this occasion, Dr. Manisha Srivastava said:

“TB elimination is a national goal under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘TB Mukt Bharat 2025’ Mission, and BMHRC is fully committed to this cause. The launch of the DOTS Center will benefit the community with timely diagnosis, treatment, and awareness, bringing us closer to eradicating this deadly but curable disease.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) also considers the DOTS strategy highly effective for TB control. It ensures medication adherence among patients and reduces the risk of drug resistance.
