CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Some organisations are circulating misleading and factually incomplete information regarding pathology and X-ray services at the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC). BMHRC wishes to clarify that there is no truth in these claims. The institute is continuously upgrading various services with the objective of providing patients with better, safer and quality healthcare facilities.
Pathology services have not been stopped. As before, blood and other necessary samples are being collected from patients at the health centres (mini units). The only change is that these samples are now being tested on advanced and automated machines installed in BMHRC’s main pathology laboratory. Since February 2026, 32,132 tests have been conducted on samples collected at the health centres.
BMHRC has further strengthened its pathology testing system in accordance with current regulatory provisions and quality standards. All tests are being conducted under the supervision of specialist pathologists, resulting in a significant improvement in the quality, accuracy and reliability of testing. Under the new arrangement, tests such as thyroid profile, vitamin-D and vitamin-B12 are also being made available, which earlier were not possible daily at the health centres. The institute is making efforts to ensure that most test reports are provided to patients by the next day. Preparations are also being made to provide test reports through a mobile app for patients’ convenience in the future.
The claim that X-ray services have been stopped is also completely baseless and misleading. No decision has been taken to end X-ray facilities at any BMHRC health centre. On the contrary, the process of equipping X-ray services available at the health centres with modern digital technology is underway.
Most of the X-ray machines installed at the health centres are more than two decades old and have completed their prescribed service life. Because they are extremely old, technical difficulties arise in their maintenance and repair, and spare parts are also not available. In view of this, BMHRC has decided to install new digital X-ray machines at the health centres. The new digital X-ray machines will provide patients benefits such as better-quality images, faster testing, lower radiation exposure and the facility to safely maintain digital records. The necessary administrative and technical processes for this have almost been completed, and new digital machines will soon be installed at all the related health centres. Until the new digital machines are installed, if any patient requires an X-ray, the examination will be conducted at BMHRC’s main hospital. No adverse impact on patients’ treatment will be allowed.
BMHRC’s objective is to provide gas victims and other patients with more modern, accurate, safe and quality healthcare services. The institute is committed to the continuous strengthening of health facilities in the public interest.
