CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies: Banners reading ‘Boycott SP’ and ‘Boycott Akhilesh Yadav’ have been put up in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow against Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav and his party. Through these banners, anger among the Maurya, Shakya, Saini and Kushwaha communities has been expressed. The posters carry a photograph of Swami Prasad Maurya and state that the community will not tolerate his insult. The development has triggered a fresh debate in state politics over the social equation of backward classes, Dalits and minorities, or PDA.

The banners allege that some Samajwadi Party supporters made indecent remarks against Swami Prasad Maurya on social media and targeted the entire community. A large hoarding asks whether the Maurya community is not part of this social alliance when the SP talks about PDA. The posters also warn that a response to this alleged insult will be given in the 2027 Assembly elections. However, there has been no official confirmation on which organisation or individual put up these banners.

The controversy is rooted in recent political statements exchanged between Akhilesh Yadav and Swami Prasad Maurya. When asked about Maurya joining the INDIA alliance, Akhilesh had said he was not part of their alliance and should be ignored. Maurya later hit back and questioned Akhilesh’s statement.

The banners put up in Lucknow now raise questions over the SP’s PDA politics and the respect of backward communities. Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the controversy has become a subject of discussion in terms of the party’s social equations and political strategy.
