CNN Central News and Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Foreign delegates visiting the BRICS Agriculture Conference, underway in Indore till June 13, toured Indore’s famed Rural Haat. Organised jointly by Mera Yuva Bharat and the Agriculture Department, the visit gave guests a vivid experience of Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural diversity, ODOP products and rural entrepreneurship.

Following Malwa tradition, the delegates were welcomed with turbans and tribal folk dances. Several representatives, swaying to the beat of drums and manjiras, joined the dance troupe.

At the haat, banana chips, cookies and garments made from banana fibre from Burhanpur emerged as the biggest attractions. The guests were delighted after tasting GI-tagged Sundarja mangoes from Rewa and Chinnor rice from Balaghat. Jhabua’s Sathi makka, Doodh Mogar makka, and rare millet varieties preserved by Mandla’s Millet Queen Lahari Bai drew the attention of agricultural experts from BRICS countries. Medicinal crops from Neemuch, Kareli jaggery from Narsinghpur and forest produce from Chhindwara also remained in focus.

In the textiles and handicrafts section, Mrignayani’s Chanderi, Maheshwari and Kosa fabrics, Bagh print and Gond art were widely appreciated. Delegates showed deep interest in Prakrit Silk’s tasar and mulberry silk, as well as sustainable low-water garments made from hemp clothing. The delegates described the Rural Haat as an excellent platform showcasing Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural prosperity and sustainable development.
