BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week-2026 was organised at Sant Hirdaram Girls College until November 7 under the joint aegis of the Nature Club, National Service Scheme and National Cadet Corps.

The objective of the seven-day campaign was to increase awareness about environmental protection, judicious use of resources and a sustainable lifestyle. The week began with a yoga practice and plantation drive on the theme “Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle”. Through this, the students were encouraged to take responsibility for the environment along with maintaining their physical health.

On the second day, an awareness session on energy conservation was organised. On the third day, a poster competition was held on the theme of water conservation, in which students gave the message of saving water through creative expression. On the fourth day, with the importance of nutritious food at the centre, nutritious dishes prepared from millets were displayed. Through the college’s health centre, students were made aware about adopting a nutritious and balanced diet.

On this occasion, students were also informed about the process of making vermicompost as a step towards the productive use of organic waste and environmental protection. On the fifth day, under the “Say No to Single-Use Plastic” campaign, separate dustbins in seven colours were prepared. By reusing discarded plastic, containers for keeping water and grain for birds and animals were made. Along with understanding the process of reusing plastic, environment-friendly paper bags were also prepared.

On the sixth day, an e-waste collection drive was conducted to create awareness about the proper disposal of electronic waste. On the final day of the week, a cleanliness drive was organised on the college campus with the cooperation of National Service Scheme volunteers.

On this occasion, the college principal, Dr. Dalima Parwani, appreciated the efforts of the students and all the teams associated with the event. Referring to the BRICS Summit, she underlined the importance of sustainable development and said that environmental protection should not be merely the subject of a campaign, but an integral part of our daily lifestyle. She encouraged the students to adopt energy and water conservation, waste management and environment-friendly habits in their conduct.

The seven-day event strengthened among the students a sense of an aware and responsible lifestyle, conservation of natural resources, waste management and collective environmental responsibility. Through this initiative, the students conveyed the message that even small positive efforts towards sustainable development can play an important role in making the future clean, healthy and safe.
