Ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Bahujan Samaj Party has stepped up its political activities. Party chief Mayawati is preparing to hold a massive mega rally in Lucknow on December 6, the Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. Through the event, the BSP wants to demonstrate the strength of its organisation and workers. Mayawati has herself agreed to attend the event as the chief guest.
At a meeting held at the BSP state office in Lucknow, election preparations were reviewed with presidents and senior office-bearers from all 75 districts. Mayawati emphasised strengthening the organisation at the booth level, selecting suitable candidates and expanding the party’s support base among weaker and deprived sections. She also directed that shortcomings found in the preparations be addressed within a fixed timeframe.
The BSP’s December 6 mega rally is being seen as a strategy to strengthen its hold among Dalit and Bahujan voters. Amid Chandrashekhar Azad’s activity in the political equations and efforts by the SP-Congress to reach out to the Dalit community, it is important for Mayawati to keep her traditional support base consolidated.
The party’s strategy also stresses building a wider social base by bringing together Dalits, backward communities, Muslims and other sections. Mayawati has called on workers to stay united, strengthen the party in the coming election and work with the goal of forming the government for a fifth time.
