Bypolls announced in four states, voting scheduled for October 6

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Election Commission has announced the schedule for bypolls in four states across the country. According to the Commission, polling will be held on October 6, 2026, for five Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in Assam, while votes will be counted on October 9.

The bypolls include two Assembly seats in West Bengal – Nandigram and Rejinagar. Voting on both seats will take place on October 6 and results will be declared on October 9. The Nandigram seat fell vacant after the resignation of Suvendu Adhikari, while the Rejinagar seat also became vacant due to the resignation of the MLA.

Nomination process to begin from September 9: As per the Election Commission’s schedule, the notification for the bypolls will be issued on September 9. Candidates will be able to file nominations until September 16. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on September 17, while candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations until September 19.

Assam Lok Sabha seat also included: The Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam is also part of these bypolls. The seat fell vacant after the resignation of MP Pradyut Bordoloi. In addition, bypolls will be held for five Assembly seats across four states. The Election Commission has enforced the Model Code of Conduct in all concerned areas along with the election process. Voting will be conducted through EVMs and VVPATs.

These bypolls are being seen as significant for political parties in West Bengal and the other concerned states. In particular, political attention will remain focused on the contest in Nandigram, as the seat has long held importance in the state’s politics.
