Greater Noida. Questions are being raised over noodles and food safety after five members of the same family died under suspicious circumstances in the Rabupura area of Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. The deceased include a husband and wife and their three children. According to initial information, the family had consumed noodles and tea at night. However, deaths after eating noodles alone do not prove that noodles were the cause. Police and forensic teams are investigating the case.
Can noodles cause food poisoning? According to experts, any food item, including noodles, can cause food poisoning if it has been prepared with contaminated water, hygiene has not been maintained during preparation, or it has been kept for a long time at the wrong temperature after cooking. Harmful bacteria or their toxins in such food can cause illness.
Common symptoms of food poisoning include vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and sometimes fever. In severe cases, dehydration and other complications may occur. However, the cause of death cannot be determined solely on the basis of symptoms and circumstances. Viscera examination will help reveal the cause of death. In this case, samples of food items have been collected for testing. Laboratory examination of the viscera preserved during the post-mortem is also important. This can help detect the presence of any toxic substance or chemical in the body. A final conclusion can be drawn only after the investigation reports are received.
Why is caution necessary while eating? Food should always be eaten fresh and properly cooked. Cooked noodles should not be kept at room temperature for a long time, and stale food or food with a suspicious smell should be avoided. If severe vomiting, diarrhoea, unconsciousness or difficulty in breathing occurs after eating, medical help should be sought immediately.
