CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University, Bhopal, organized a cancer awareness program. The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the Saraswati Puja.

The distinguished guest for the program was Dr. Anupa Walia Lokwani, Senior Gynecologist and Laparoscopy Surgeon at Apollo SAGE Hospital, Bhopal. She was welcomed by Hon’ble Acting Vice-Chancellor Ratan Suryavanshi with a Tulsi plant as a mark of respect.

Dr. Anupa provided detailed information on cervical and breast cancer in women, emphasizing that timely medical check-ups and accurate information can help prevent these diseases. She advised women to exercise for 30–35 minutes daily and maintain a balanced diet. She also shared ways to manage hormonal changes and menopause-related issues through exercise.

Highlighting the causes of cervical cancer, she explained that it primarily results from prolonged infection with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). She stressed the importance of HPV vaccination for girls aged 9–14 and regular Pap smear or HPV tests for women aged 25–50. For breast cancer prevention, she recommended monthly self-examinations and mammography every 1–2 years for women with a family history of cancer.

Presiding over the program, Hon’ble Acting Vice-Chancellor Ratan Suryavanshi honored womanhood and stated that fear is bigger than disease. Citing the example of Yuvraj Singh, he emphasized courage and maintaining good health in life.

The program organizers, led by Registrar Sushil Manderia, highlighted the importance of modern lifestyle awareness and physical activity. University officers and students attended the event, including Assistant Registrar Nitin Sangale, Director IT Pragya Shukla, Director CICA Vibha Mishra, Director Academy Narendra Tripathi, among others. The event was successfully conducted by CICA Senior Advisor Nidhi Rawal Gautam.
