CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) revised guidelines are currently a subject of discussion. Under the new framework, special attention has been prescribed during certification for violence in films, narcotic substances, sensitive social issues, film titles and India’s relations with other countries. These rules are also being considered significant for Salman Khan’s upcoming film “Matrubhoomi: May War Rest in Peace”.
The film’s story is said to be linked to the backdrop of the 2020 Galwan conflict and India-China military tensions. According to reports, there has been a delay in the film receiving a CBFC certificate, and the subject related to China is also being cited as one reason for discussion. The new guidelines make it clear that film content should not adversely affect India’s friendly relations with other countries. However, what final impact this will have on the film’s certification will depend on the CBFC’s decision.
The new guidelines advise against glorifying violence and showing methods of committing crimes in a manner that could encourage crime. At the same time, it has been made mandatory to carry prescribed warnings with scenes involving consumption or trafficking of narcotic substances. Films can be certified in categories such as UA, UA 7+, UA 13+, UA 16+ and A. The CBFC has also provided for careful examination of a film’s title. A title should not be provocative, obscene, objectionable or in violation of certification guidelines. In this context, the content and presentation of “Matrubhoomi” will also be assessed in line with these rules. At present, no official decision has been announced regarding the film’s final certificate or any cuts.
