CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on ride-hailing platform Rapido over alleged methods that made customers pay more. The action has been taken against Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited, the company that operates Rapido.

A CCPA investigation found that certain messages were displayed on Rapido’s app that encouraged customers to pay more than the original fare. For example, the app indicated that the higher the fare, the greater the chances of getting a ride. Even after a customer had already accepted a fare, options were provided to add an extra amount.

The authority placed this practice in the category of “confirm shaming” and “dark patterns.” According to the CCPA, this could have created the impression among customers that it would be difficult to get a ride without making an additional payment. Objections were also raised over the design of the app’s “Set your price” feature. The CCPA also said a tip is generally a voluntary payment made by a customer after receiving a service. Under the 2025 Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, the option to give a tip should be available after the trip is completed.
