CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Four-Year Shastri (UG) and One-Year Acharya (PG) Courses to Begin at Central Sanskrit University from 2025-26
Starting from the 2025-26 academic session, Central Sanskrit University will introduce a four-year Shastri (Undergraduate) program and a one-year Acharya (Postgraduate) program. Under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, degrees such as Shastri (UG), Shastri Research, and Acharya (PG) will be awarded based on the completion of semesters.
Course Structure and Subjects
The four-year Shastri program will include a major-minor subject structure, covering traditional disciplines such as Vedas, Astrology, Grammar, Literature, Philosophy, Buddhist Philosophy, Kashmir Shaiva Philosophy, Dharmashastra, Advaita Vedanta, Puranic History, and Pali-Prakrit, alongside modern subjects like Political Science, History, English, Hindi, and Computer Science. Additionally, skill development courses will be integrated into the curriculum.
The NEP Curriculum Planning Committee’s recommendations have been implemented across the university, model colleges, and all affiliated institutions.
Degree and Certification System
According to the new system:
Students completing two semesters will receive a Certificate.
Those completing four semesters will earn a Diploma.
After six semesters, students will be awarded the Shastri (Undergraduate) degree.
Students successfully completing eight semesters will receive a Shastri (Research Honors) degree.
Those completing ten semesters will be directly awarded the Acharya (Postgraduate) degree, qualifying them for further research.
Examination and Skill Development
Each core subject will carry 100 marks, with 60 marks for written exams and 40 marks for continuous assessment. Students will also be required to study:
Interdisciplinary courses
Skill development and proficiency enhancement courses
Ethical values subjects
The proficiency courses will include languages, while skill development courses will feature Yoga, Computer Science, Music, Theatre, Rituals, Astrology, and Vastu Shastra.
Mandatory Internship for Employment Readiness
To enhance employment opportunities, internships will be made compulsory for all students, ensuring practical exposure and career readiness in various fields.
