CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Senior shooter and Asian Games medalist Chain Singh secured India’s first medal at the ISSF World Cup for Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun, currently underway in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On Friday, Chain Singh won the bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle three-position event.

Hungary’s Istvan Peni clinched the gold medal with a score of 461.0 points, while China’s Tian Jiaming took silver with 458.8 points. Chain Singh was eliminated after the penultimate shot in the 45-shot final with 443.7 points, but by then, he had already secured a medal for India. This is his first ISSF medal in three years.

Qualification Round

From India, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Neeraj Kumar, and Chain Singh all qualified for the final. The competition also included renowned shooters like Alexander Schmirl of Austria, the current world champion.

Aishwary qualified in second place with 589 points, while Chain Singh also scored 589 but ranked third based on accuracy. Neeraj Kumar secured fifth place with 587 points.

Final Match

In the final, Neeraj Kumar started strong in the kneeling position, holding second place, but his performance dipped in the later stages. Aishwary and Chain improved as the event progressed.

After the prone position, they moved into third and fourth place, holding strong into the standing position. However, Aishwary’s 7.8 score on the 41st shot cost him a medal. Alexander Schmirl was eliminated after the 42nd shot, finishing fifth, thereby securing a medal for Chain Singh.

Other Results

In the women’s 25m pistol qualification precision round,

Manu Bhaker scored 291 out of 300, placing fourth,

Simranpreet Kaur Brar scored 290, placing sixth,

Esha Singh scored 285, finishing twelfth.

In skeet shooting, on the second day, Paris Olympian Raiza Dhillon scored 71 across three rounds, achieving the best performance among Indian shooters, finishing seventh — just two points behind the top position.
