CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Uttar Pradesh: Changur Baba, a self-styled religious figure from Uttar Pradesh, has come under the scrutiny of the state’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for alleged involvement in forced religious conversions and illegal funding of madarsas near the Indo-Nepal border. According to sources, the UP ATS is investigating potential links between Changur Baba and cross-border networks that may be channeling funds from foreign sources into unregistered Islamic seminaries operating without proper oversight.

The case gained momentum after intelligence inputs suggested that Changur Baba may have been using his influence in border villages to promote religious conversions in exchange for financial or social benefits. Investigators are also looking into whether these conversions were voluntary or coerced, and whether the madarsas receiving funds are linked to any radical ideologies.

The state government has taken the issue seriously, citing national security concerns due to the proximity of the activities to an international border. Officials have confirmed that audits of financial transactions and institutional affiliations are underway. If proven, the findings could result in charges under various sections of the IPC, UAPA, and Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

This development adds to growing concerns about religious extremism, foreign funding, and the need for stricter regulation of religious institutions in sensitive regions.
