CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Residents and establishments in Chennai’s merged and expanded areas can now apply online for new water supply and underground sewerage connections, the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has reiterated. The move follows the completion of water and sewerage infrastructure works in several localities under the expanded Greater Chennai Corporation limits.
CMWSSB said applicants do not need to visit its offices to submit applications or make payments. Applications and payments can be completed through the Board’s online portal. Officials have also advised residents not to pay intermediaries for obtaining connections.
The online process requires applicants to create or use their login credentials, select the relevant connection and building category, fill in the application and upload the required documents. After submission, the concerned Depot Engineer schedules an inspection, following which the application is processed for approval and payment.
The Board’s Citizen Charter provides for a process covering inspection, verification, approval, payment, work-order issuance and execution of the connection. For eligible applications, the prescribed overall timeline for effecting a new connection is 15 days, subject to completion of the required formalities.
The initiative covers several added areas of Greater Chennai, including parts of Manali, Madhavaram, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Perungudi and Sholinganallur where distribution and sewerage infrastructure has been established.
