CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Why can chest burning occur after eating? This could be the reason
New Delhi. A burning sensation in the chest after eating is a common problem. Many people dismiss it as gas or ordinary acidity, but acid reflux or heartburn may also be the cause. In this condition, stomach acid flows back into the food pipe, causing a burning sensation in the middle or upper part of the chest.
The problem can increase especially after eating too much food, or fried and spicy food. Tea, coffee, chocolate, carbonated drinks, alcohol and smoking can also worsen symptoms in some people. Lying down immediately after a meal or being overweight can also increase the chances of stomach acid moving upward.
To prevent this, avoid eating too much at one time and do not lie down immediately after meals. Having dinner at least two to three hours before going to bed may be helpful. It is also useful to identify and limit foods that repeatedly trigger the burning sensation.
If chest burning occurs repeatedly, there is difficulty in swallowing, or symptoms persist, it is important to consult a doctor. At the same time, if severe chest pain is accompanied by difficulty in breathing, cold sweat, dizziness or nausea, it should not be ignored as merely gas, and immediate medical help should be sought.
