CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal:The 56th GST Council meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi, saw significant discussions on the proposed GST reforms. Representing Chhattisgarh, Finance Minister OP Choudhary shared his views on the anticipated benefits of the reform measures.
During the meeting, Choudhary highlighted that the proposed changes in the GST framework are designed to simplify the tax structure and provide greater ease of compliance for businesses and citizens alike. According to him, these reforms will facilitate smoother business operations, energize trade, and contribute to the overall growth of India’s economy.
Choudhary emphasized that GST reforms go beyond mere tax restructuring. They serve as a mechanism to strengthen the ease of doing business and ensure financial stability for both states and the central government. He referred to the call for comprehensive GST reforms made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Red Fort during Independence Day celebrations, noting that the current council session marked a concrete step toward realizing that vision.
The meeting was attended by chief ministers and finance ministers from various states, secretaries from the revenue department, as well as members and officials from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). Senior officers from the Ministry of Finance also participated.
The GST Council 2025 reforms are expected to significantly enhance transparency, reduce compliance burden, and promote a more robust economic environment for businesses across India, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fiscal stability and sustainable growth.
