Markets across Chhattisgarh witnessed strong festive activity on the occasion of Dhanteras. From the capital Raipur to Bilaspur, Durg, Bhilai, Raigarh and Jagdalpur, crowds of shoppers thronged markets from morning until late night. According to initial estimates by trade organisations and traders, business worth about Rs 12,000 crore was conducted in the state on Dhanteras. However, different trade assessments also showed variations in the business figures.

Shopping enthusiasm was visible in the bullion, automobile, electronics, clothing, utensils and real estate sectors. Along with gold and silver jewellery and coins, people bought household goods, mobile phones, televisions, refrigerators and other electronic products. In Raipur alone, business was estimated at around Rs 2,500 crore.

Strong enthusiasm seen in vehicle purchases

The automobile sector also saw heavy customer footfall. According to the Raipur Dealers Automobile Association, around 1.30 lakh two-wheelers and more than 10,000 cars were sold across the state. In addition, tractors, commercial vehicles and three-wheelers also saw good demand. Overall vehicle sales are estimated to have reached around 1.5 lakh.

Bullion and electronics markets also shone

Despite fluctuations in gold and silver prices, customer interest in the bullion market remained intact. Silver coins, utensils and gold jewellery were in demand. Buyers also gathered until late night at shops selling electronics, clothing, sweets, decorative items and gifts.

According to traders, preparations for the wedding season, along with the festivals, also gave momentum to the market. Attractive discounts, exchange offers and easy instalment facilities encouraged customers to make purchases.
