Chhattisgarh Monsoon Pattern Shifts, Experts Raise Concern
CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A noticeable shift in Chhattisgarh’s monsoon pattern is emerging, with weather experts observing that rainfall is increasingly becoming concentrated during the later months of the season rather than the traditional peak monsoon period. According to recent analyses, June and July are witnessing comparatively weaker rainfall activity, while August and September are recording heavier and more intense precipitation events. This changing trend is raising concerns among farmers, planners, and climate experts due to its potential impact on agriculture and water management.
Traditionally, a substantial portion of Chhattisgarh’s monsoon rainfall occurred during June and July, supporting sowing activities for major crops. However, changing weather patterns and climate variability are altering the distribution of rainfall. Experts note that delayed or uneven rainfall in the early monsoon period can affect crop growth, while concentrated rainfall later in the season increases the risk of waterlogging, flooding, and crop damage.
Meteorological studies indicate increasing variability in rainfall patterns, with extreme rainfall events becoming more frequent in central India. Chhattisgarh, which receives most of its annual rainfall from the southwest monsoon between June and September, is particularly vulnerable to such changes.
Agricultural experts emphasize the need for adaptive farming practices, improved water conservation, and better forecasting systems to help farmers cope with evolving climatic conditions. The changing monsoon trend highlights the growing influence of climate change on regional weather systems and the importance of long-term planning for sustainable development.
