CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies: The Desai committee, constituted to examine the possibility of implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Chhattisgarh, may submit its report by November 30. Based on the committee’s recommendations, the next steps toward preparing a UCC draft for the state will be decided. The proposed framework may include a provision making registration mandatory both for entering into a live-in relationship and for ending one.

The proposed draft is considering bringing issues such as marriage, divorce, succession and live-in relationships under a uniform legal framework. Special provisions related to the registration of live-in relationships are under discussion. Under this, couples living together may have to register information about their relationship with the relevant authority. A system of registration or intimation may also be proposed if the relationship ends.

However, these provisions are still matters linked to the proposed draft and the committee’s recommendations. They cannot be treated as the final legal arrangement. Only after the committee’s report is received will it become clear which provisions have been recommended for inclusion and how the state government proceeds further.

With the November 30 deadline, attention will remain on the committee’s report. After this, the scope of the proposed UCC, the registration process and the rules applicable to various personal relationships are expected to become clearer.
