CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of World Heart Day, a special screening camp was organised at the District Early Intervention Centre, Bhopal, to identify heart diseases among young children.
Echocardiography was conducted on 147 children aged between one month and 14 years. Of them, 35 children were found to have heart-related problems and were advised surgery. The examinations were conducted by senior paediatric cardiologist Dr. Supratim Sen, who came from Mumbai.
Under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, heart disease awareness counselling and health camps were organised at various government health institutions in Bhopal, where information on healthy lifestyles was provided.
At Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, detailed information was given on symptoms of heart diseases and lifestyle management. Poster competitions and question-answer sessions were also organised to create awareness on daily activities, exercise and diet for keeping the heart healthy.
Through awareness programmes, competitions were held to prepare low-cholesterol food using locally available food items.
Chief Medical and Health Officer, Bhopal, Dr. Manish Sharma said the mobile health team of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram identifies heart disease and other illnesses at the field level. Children found to have heart disease in the camp will be treated free of cost under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram.
