CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal: Advancing its ambitious plans in the space sector, China has reiterated its goal of landing its astronauts on the Moon before 2030. Work is also under way towards setting up a scientific research centre on the Moon. Under this plan, China is preparing to increase human presence on the Moon and conduct scientific activities there over the long term.
At the seventh Human Spaceflight Conference held in Beijing on October 31, Wang Xiang, deputy chief designer of China’s human space programme, presented a detailed plan for the human mission to the Moon. According to the plan, the Mengzhou crewed spacecraft and the Lanyue lunar lander will be sent into lunar orbit using two separate rockets. The two spacecraft will dock there. Astronauts will then move into the lander, descend to the lunar surface and carry out scientific research.
According to the plan, the mission will include three astronauts. Two of them will land on the Moon’s surface, while one astronaut will remain in orbit and operate the spacecraft. The Long March-10 rocket, Mengzhou spacecraft and Lanyue lander are being developed for this mission. China also aims to prepare the initial form of an international lunar research station by 2035 in cooperation with Russia and other partner countries.
China’s plan reflects its growing ambitions in space research. However, the success of the crewed lunar mission will depend on technical tests and the completion of preparations on schedule.
