CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: China today strongly opposed the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States. On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump announced a 34% tariff on $438 billion worth of Chinese imports. China, the third-largest trading partner of the US, has vowed to defend its rights with a firm response.

According to China’s state news agency Xinhua, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce stated on Thursday that China firmly opposes the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the US and will take strong countermeasures to protect its rights and interests. Taking a direct jab at Trump, the spokesperson asserted that history has shown that increasing tariffs does not resolve America’s own problems but rather harms US interests. These tariffs pose a risk to global economic growth as well as the stability of industrial and supply chains.

The spokesperson added, “There are no winners in a trade war. Raising tariffs against all trading partners under the guise of reciprocity ignores the balance of interests. Trump is overlooking the fact that the United States has long benefited from international trade.” They further stated that the US has imposed so-called reciprocal tariffs based on subjective and unilateral assessments, violating international trade rules and severely harming the rights and interests of all involved parties. “This is the highest form of unilateral trickery,” the spokesperson remarked, adding that several trading partners have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the US move.

China has urged the United States to immediately withdraw its unilateral tariffs and resolve trade disputes through fair negotiations. Meanwhile, China has issued guidelines to improve its price regulation mechanism. These guidelines, issued by the General Office of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council, aim to enhance the price guidance system, maintain a reasonable price level, and promote a transparent and predictable market price supervision system.
