CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bangiya Christiya Pariseba (BCP), a Christian forum in West Bengal, has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleging 26 cases of persecution involving Christians, churches and community institutions over the past three months. The organisation has sought the Chief Minister’s intervention over what it describes as growing security concerns.
According to the memorandum dated September 17 and signed by BCP founding state secretary Herod Mullick, 11 of the 26 cases have resulted in the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs). The organisation also claimed that some incidents remained unreported and alleged that victims in certain cases were discouraged or prevented from filing complaints. These are allegations made by the organisation and have not been independently established by the reports.
The forum has requested an urgent meeting with the Chief Minister and a delegation of clergy and community representatives. It has also sought directions to district police to register complaints promptly and conduct impartial investigations.
Other demands include police protection for vulnerable churches, prayer halls and Christian institutions across West Bengal. The organisation has also called for safeguards against action based on what it described as unverified propaganda.
The memorandum places the reported incidents before the state administration for investigation and action. The BCP has called for measures aimed at addressing security concerns and protecting religious institutions.
