Bilaspur: In view of possible accidents caused by firecrackers and fireworks during Diwali, the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), Bilaspur, has made special medical preparations. Hospital management has kept teams of doctors, the operation theatre (OT), ICU and ambulances ready to deal with emergencies so that the injured can receive treatment without delay.

The dermatology, surgery and orthopaedics departments have been alerted to treat patients suffering burns from firecrackers, injuries to hands and feet, and serious injuries caused by explosions. The ophthalmology department will remain prepared to treat eye injuries caused by sparks or gunpowder particles entering the eyes during fireworks. If smoke from firecrackers causes breathing problems, the medicine department will provide treatment, while ENT specialists will attend to cases of ear damage caused by loud noise.

Arrangements for the OT, ICU, essential medicines and life-saving equipment have been ensured for serious patients. Ambulances with staff will also remain available to bring patients to the hospital in emergencies.

CIMS Dean Dr. Ramanesh Murti and Medical Superintendent Dr. Lakhan Singh have appealed to people to celebrate Diwali safely. They advised that children should not be allowed to burst firecrackers alone and that people should reach the hospital immediately in case of an accident. In any emergency, the CIMS emergency department can be contacted at 07752-222301.
