CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Department of Cinema Studies at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication organized a special workshop on “Tools and Techniques of Cinematography.”
Objective of the Workshop
The workshop aimed to provide students with a detailed understanding of both the technical and creative aspects of cinematography, helping them refine their practical skills and establish themselves in the industry. It was conducted in collaboration with the world-renowned camera brand, Nikon.
Hands-on Learning in Cinematography
Through this workshop, students gained insights into professional camera operation, camera settings, angles, framing, and the technical aspects of video production.
Addressing the participants, Vice-Chancellor Vijay Manohar Tiwari highlighted the power of visuals, recalling the iconic image of a child from the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, which continues to symbolize the disaster. He emphasized the vast opportunities in photography and videography, encouraging students to learn content writing alongside visual storytelling. He further stressed that in today’s digital era, visual content is more important than ever, and cinematography plays a crucial role in this transformation.

The workshop was coordinated by Head of the Cinema Studies Department, Pavitra Srivastava, who inspired students to embrace new technologies and take their cinematography skills to the next level.
Chetal Pahal (Technical Officer, West Region, Nikon) conducted a detailed session on camera operation and technical setups. He explained the importance of camera angles and lighting in keeping the audience engaged, ensuring their focus remains on the subject.
A.M. Farooqui, a professional photographer, shared his experiences, explaining the technical and artistic aspects of photography and videography. He provided practical tips on creating a cinematic look, using visual language for storytelling, and applying these techniques in real-world projects.
