CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced plans to hold another protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke made the announcement following a demonstration at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2, where thousands of protesters gathered despite police denying permission for the event.
Dipke said that people from across India would march to Delhi and participate in the proposed protest. He described the planned demonstration as a peaceful agitation and appealed to citizens concerned about free and fair elections to join. The CJP has been demanding Kumar’s resignation while alleging irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. These allegations have not been independently established.
The organisation has also called for freezing the 2025 voter lists and changes to the law governing the appointment of Election Commissioners. Dipke warned that if Delhi Police stopped the protesters, the location where they were halted would become their “Jantar Mantar.” The proposed October 10 demonstration follows the group’s earlier protests concerning electoral issues and expands its campaign from Mumbai to the national capital.
