CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. A political controversy has deepened in Delhi over the arrest and whereabouts of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke. Delhi Police detained Dipke on October 16 ahead of the proposed “Lehra Do Tiranga” march demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party later raised questions about his status. Police said Dipke has been arrested and legal action is being taken against him.

Questions raised over Dipke’s whereabouts: CJP demanded that information about Dipke’s whereabouts be made public and called for his release. People associated with the party asked where Dipke was being kept if he was in police custody. Opposition leaders also questioned the police action and the custody process.

According to media reports, Dipke was stopped by police after he stepped out of a residence in Delhi’s Jhandewalan area and was taken away. Police had also issued him a notice ahead of the march asking him not to hold the protest. Officials cited concerns related to public order, traffic and security.

Neha Bora released: Ahead of the same protest, All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora was also detained. According to reports, she was released on Saturday morning after formal procedures were completed. Meanwhile, information emerged that action against Dipke was being taken under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Protest over voter list revision: CJP and protesters linked to it have been questioning the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list and the role of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The organisation had called for the Tiranga march on the same issue. After the police action, the matter has become part of a debate over the right to protest, public order and transparency in detention. For now, attention remains on Dipke’s custody and the further legal process against him. The police version and the related legal proceedings will be important in the case.
