CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: CNN Central News & Network – ITDC India ePress / ITDC News, Bhopal. New Delhi. Police detained Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das after they reached Delhi’s Jantar Mantar carrying the tricolour on Tuesday morning. Information also emerged that other members of the organisation were detained with them. The action came at a time when the administration had changed the arrangements related to permission for demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and barred protests there.

According to media reports, CJP members reached Jantar Mantar on Tuesday morning carrying the tricolour. Police detained them after they arrived at the site. Information shared by the organisation claimed that Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and Ajinkya Shinde, among other members, were detained.

The development comes amid protests that have continued in Delhi over the past few days. CJP and other protesters are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They allege that serious questions have arisen over the process of revision of voter lists and that transparency must be ensured in the electoral process.

According to reports, the administration had on 12 October removed Jantar Mantar from the notified arrangement as a designated protest site. After this, action was taken on Tuesday against protesters who reached the site without permission. As no detailed official statement from the police was available on this specific action, the full circumstances of the detention require independent confirmation.

The movement led by CJP has been raising questions over the electoral process and revision of voter lists. Protesters say transparency and accountability must be ensured in the election system. The Election Commission, on the other hand, has rejected allegations of irregularities in the voter list and said eligible voters whose names were mistakenly removed can register again through the prescribed process.

The latest action at Jantar Mantar has again intensified debate over the balance between the right to peaceful protest and the administration’s authority to regulate gatherings in public places. The situation ahead will depend on what steps the protesters take over their demands and what action the administration takes in the matter.
