CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have sought additional time to appear before the Delhi Police Crime Branch and did not attend their scheduled questioning on Thursday, October 22, 2026. According to media reports, police are expected to issue fresh notices directing the leaders to join the investigation.

The questioning is linked to cases registered following a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 13. The incident involved CJP members who allegedly entered the restricted area despite restrictions on demonstrations at the site. The protest reportedly included demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over concerns surrounding the revision of electoral rolls.

Das and Ranka were released from judicial custody on October 21 after a Special Executive Magistrate accepted their personal and surety bonds of ₹50,000 each and recorded their written undertakings to maintain peace and abide by the law.

As part of their undertakings, the leaders agreed not to call for protests at Jantar Mantar while the site remained officially denotified. They were also directed to attend subsequent proceedings and comply with the conditions imposed by the court.

The latest development comes as the police investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the protest and the alleged violations. The reason cited by the leaders for requesting additional time and the revised date for questioning have not been disclosed in the available reports.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the CJP leaders have not been established as findings of guilt.
