CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. The difficulties for Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka do not appear to be easing. A day after their release from Tihar Jail, the Delhi Police Crime Branch issued summons to both leaders. They have been asked to appear at the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden at 12 noon on Thursday, October 22, to record their statements. Another party leader, Ajinkya Shinde, has also been called for questioning.
The case is linked to the “Lehra Do Tiranga” protest held at Jantar Mantar. According to police, on October 13, CJP leaders allegedly crossed barricades and entered a restricted protest area. Police tried to stop them at the time. An investigation is under way into complaints related to alleged unauthorised entry and obstruction of police work. Both cases have now been handed over to the Crime Branch.
Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were sent to judicial custody on October 14. Seven days later, on October 21, the court of the Special Executive Magistrate rejected the police demand to extend their custody and ordered their release. Both furnished personal bonds and bail bonds of Rs 50,000 each, along with a written assurance to maintain peace and not call for a protest at Jantar Mantar without legal permission.
After their release, CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke praised the two leaders and said, “Saurav and Ashu are much bigger leaders than me.” Attention will now be on the Crime Branch questioning and the proposed court hearing on October 23.
