CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: CJP skips Ramlila Maidan rally, stresses its independent political identity
New Delhi: The absence of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) from the INDIA alliance’s mega rally held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1 has sparked discussion in political circles. Earlier, leaders of CJP and opposition parties had been seen showing unity on the streets of Delhi over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list and the issue of alleged vote theft. Despite this, CJP was neither seen on the rally stage nor did the organisation formally participate in it.
CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke had clarified the organisation’s position before the rally. He said CJP supports the opposition’s protest, but wants to retain its identity as an independent and neutral platform. According to him, CJP will support any organisation that raises its voice against alleged vote theft. He said this was not an issue limited to any one political party or alliance.
A day before the rally, Deepke had met Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. He expressed gratitude for the support received during CJP’s first movement against the NEET paper leak and during the arrest of the organisation’s leaders. Mamata Banerjee also appreciated the efforts of activists associated with the youth movement.
Political analysis of CJP’s absence also raised questions about the limits of the relationship between Congress and the organisation. Some political assessments suggested the possibility that Congress may have avoided giving CJP a separate political identity, though there has been no official confirmation of this.
The development makes clear that despite shared support on electoral issues, all organisations are not ready to come together on the same political platform. CJP has adopted a position of continuing support on the issue of protest while maintaining its independent identity.
