CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: An important finding has emerged from a study by researchers from AIIMS Delhi and GB Pant Institute on the treatment of prolonged epileptic seizures, known as status epilepticus. According to the researchers, orally dissolving Clobazam may be as effective in stopping a prolonged seizure as Midazolam administered through the nose.

The study focused especially on patients in whom an epileptic seizure continues for a prolonged period. Researchers compared the effect and utility of Clobazam with Midazolam. The findings of this study could open the way for further research on alternative treatment options during prolonged seizures.

Clobazam has already been used as an add-on medicine in some types of uncontrolled or drug-resistant epilepsy. However, scientific evidence available on its use in status epilepticus remains limited, and experts have called for larger and controlled studies.

According to experts, a prolonged epileptic seizure can be a medical emergency. Therefore, it is necessary for such patients to receive immediate treatment under medical supervision. Medicines such as Clobazam should not be used without a doctor’s advice.
