CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Conditions are reported to have worsened amid heavy rain, a cloudburst and intense downpours in Kedarnath and nearby hilly areas of Uttarakhand. There is a continuing risk of sudden rises in water levels, landslides and disruption of road routes at several places. The Meteorological Department has issued rain alerts for several states, including Uttarakhand.
Apart from Uttarakhand, the impact of heavy rain is also being seen in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and other parts of the country. In some areas, rising river levels have created flood-like conditions. In several parts of Uttar Pradesh earlier as well, rising water levels in the Ganga and other rivers had led to waterlogging in low-lying areas and a situation in which people had to be moved to safer places.
According to the Meteorological Department forecast, rainfall may continue in Uttarakhand for the next few days. Heavy rain has also been predicted in Madhya Pradesh on different days. In such conditions, the risk of landslides in hilly areas and waterlogging in plains may increase. The administration has stepped up monitoring in sensitive areas and people are being urged to stay away from rivers, streams and landslide-prone zones. Devotees and travellers have been advised to undertake journeys only in accordance with weather conditions and the advice of the local administration.
