CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Clouds Block Moon Sighting On Karwa Chauth; Women Use Video Calls
On the auspicious occasion of Karwa Chauth, the weather this time created some difficulty amid the enthusiasm of women observing the fast. With clouds covering the sky and the moon not visible, many women had to wait for the moon sighting. In such a situation, some women viewed the moon through video calls, while others completed the traditional ritual of the fast by viewing the moon adorning the head of Lord Shiva.
On Karwa Chauth, women observed a day-long nirjala fast, praying for their husbands’ long life and for happiness and prosperity. In the evening, they performed solah shringar, arranged their puja thalis and collectively offered prayers to Karwa Mata. In several colonies and residential complexes, women gathered together, listened to the katha and carried out the rituals.
At night, when the moon was expected to rise, the weather remained an obstacle. Because of the clouds, the moon could not be clearly seen at many places. In this situation, women asked family members to show them the moon through video calls. Some women, meanwhile, broke their fast after viewing the moon adorned on Lord Shiva’s head in temples. Despite the weather-related hurdle, there was no decline in the women’s faith and enthusiasm. Celebrated with traditional customs, the festival also became an occasion for family and social bonding.
