CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Indore: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent political tours, claiming that the Congress has suffered losses in places visited by Gandhi.
Speaking to reporters in Raipur before leaving for Odisha, Sai referred to Gandhi’s previous political tours and said his record showed that the Congress had gained less and suffered more in places where he campaigned. He made the remarks in the context of Gandhi’s recent visit to Madhya Pradesh.
Sai also referred to the recent Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results while making his argument. The results saw ABVP-backed candidates win three of the four central posts, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president post. NSUI did not win any of the four central positions.
The Chief Minister linked the DUSU results to his broader comments about the political preferences of young voters. He said, according to reports, that young people make decisions based on development and their future rather than only slogans or political statements.
Rahul Gandhi had visited Indore on September 19 for the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme, where he interacted with students and discussed issues concerning education, youth and governance.
Sai’s comments are part of the ongoing political exchange between the BJP and Congress. His claim about the impact of Gandhi’s tours represents his political assessment and does not by itself establish a causal link between Gandhi’s visits and electoral results.
