CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 157th birth anniversary at the General Post Office (GPO) premises in Lucknow on Friday. He offered flowers at Gandhi’s statue and remembered his ideals of truth, non-violence, simplicity and self-reliance.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, several state ministers, elected representatives and other public representatives were present during the tribute programme. Schoolchildren also performed devotional and patriotic songs, including “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram” and “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye.”

On the occasion, CM Yogi extended greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh on the International Day of Non-Violence. In a social media message, he said Gandhi’s message of truth and non-violence continues to hold relevance.

The Chief Minister also highlighted Gandhi’s emphasis on swadeshi and self-reliance. He said Gandhi’s ideals, simplicity and thoughts continue to provide guidance for building a self-reliant and developed India.

October 2 also marks the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Shastri and recalled his contribution to the freedom struggle and his leadership of the country. He also referred to Shastri’s “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” slogan and his emphasis on farmers and national security.

The Gandhi Jayanti programme in Lucknow brought together government representatives and students, with the event focusing on remembering the values and public contributions associated with Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
