CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: During the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Karnataka, the name of Bharat Ratna awardee and eminent scientist Professor CNR Rao has come into focus because of a technical discrepancy.
According to reports, the voter list recorded the title before his name as “Proff” instead of “Prof”, with an additional “F” added. The name-related difference reportedly led to his record being marked for verification.
However, an important clarification has also emerged in the matter. According to Professor CNR Rao’s office, he has not received any notice either personally or by email. The office said the information is visible online on the Election Commission’s website, but there is no major error in the voter record apart from the extra letter in “Proff”.
Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao has also said that no notice has been issued to Professor CNR Rao over the name-related discrepancy. This presents a somewhat different position from the initial reports that had surfaced in the matter.
During SIR, the process of matching names and other details in voter records is under way. In this context, the addition of one extra letter in CNR Rao’s name has brought attention to data accuracy in voter lists and the process of record verification.
