CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: During the ongoing Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, process in Karnataka, the name of Bharat Ratna awardee and eminent scientist Professor CNR Rao has come into focus because of a technical discrepancy. According to reports, the word “Prof” written with his name in the voters’ list was entered as “Proff”, with an additional “F”. It was reported that because of this difference in the name, his record was marked for verification.
However, an important clarification has also emerged in the matter. According to Professor CNR Rao’s office, he has not received any notice personally or through email. The office said the information is visible online on the Election Commission website, but apart from the additional letter in “Proff”, there is no major error in the voter record.
Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao has also said that no notice has been issued to Professor CNR Rao over the name-related discrepancy. This presents a somewhat different picture from the initial reports that surfaced in connection with the matter.
During the SIR, the process of matching names and other details in voter records is under way. In this context, the addition of one extra letter in CNR Rao’s name has brought the issue of data accuracy in the voters’ list and the record verification process into discussion.
