CNR Rao Gets SIR Notice Over Name Discrepancy in Voter List

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Eminent scientist Professor CNR Rao, a Bharat Ratna awardee, has been issued a notice under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision process, or SIR, in Karnataka. After a discrepancy emerged over his name in the voter list, officials asked him to appear for a hearing for verification of his identity and documents. The 92-year-old Professor CNR Rao is among the country’s leading scientists and was honoured in 2014 with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.

According to the report, his name was marked for scrutiny because of a difference between the entry in the voter list and the available documents. For this reason, election officials sent him the notice. It was stated that the situation arose over the presence of an additional letter “F” in the name. Officials aim to verify identity-related records and remove any discrepancy in the voter list.

The matter has drawn attention because the person who received the notice is not an ordinary voter but Professor CNR Rao, one of the country’s most respected scientists. The episode has also highlighted the importance of accuracy in names and documents in voter records during the SIR process.
