CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A coordination meeting was held under the chairmanship of Collector Priyank Mishra with representatives of farmers’ organisations of Bhopal district. In view of the upcoming Rabi season, detailed discussions were held on several important issues related to farmers, including availability of electricity and water for irrigation, disposal of pending revenue cases, availability of fertiliser, stubble management and environmental protection.

Collector Mishra directed officials of the departments concerned to resolve farmers’ problems on a priority basis. He asked them to ensure availability of electricity at the scheduled time for agricultural work and to pay special attention to arrangements for irrigation water. Instructions were also given for quick resolution of complaints related to disruption in power supply, low voltage and burnt transformers, so that farmers do not face unnecessary difficulties during sowing and irrigation of Rabi crops.

Pending revenue cases to be resolved on priority: The meeting also discussed pending revenue cases related to farmers, including mutation, partition and demarcation. The Collector directed revenue officials not to allow unnecessary delay in disposal of cases and to ensure action within the prescribed time limit. Emphasis was also laid on organising special camps as required to resolve farmers’ problems on the spot. The administration’s objective is that farmers should not have to repeatedly visit offices for their revenue-related work.

Farmers urged not to burn stubble, to cooperate in environmental protection: The meeting placed special emphasis on proper management of stubble left in fields after harvesting. Collector Mishra appealed to representatives of farmers’ organisations to make farmers aware about not burning stubble and to actively participate in efforts for environmental protection. Stubble burning increases air pollution, affects soil fertility and can harm beneficial microorganisms present in the fields.

He directed the officials concerned to organise dialogue, village meetings and awareness activities with farmers in rural areas, so that alternative measures for stubble management can be encouraged. Emphasis was also laid on informing farmers about agricultural equipment and suitable technologies available for management of crop residue. Crop residue can be managed through the use of super seeders, happy seeders, rotavators and other suitable agricultural equipment. Instructions were also given to inform eligible farmers about subsidies available under government schemes.

Action as per rules for violation of norms: The Collector made it clear that compliance with the restrictions applicable to stubble burning should be ensured. Officials concerned were directed to make farmers aware of the rules and, in cases of violation, take action in accordance with prevailing rules and government instructions. Farmers were appealed to properly manage crop residue instead of burning it and to cooperate in maintaining a clean environment.

Emphasis on coordination between farmers and administration: Representatives of farmers’ organisations placed issues and suggestions related to agricultural work before the meeting. Collector Mishra directed the departments concerned to take necessary action on these matters and maintain continuous coordination with farmers. He said timely resolution of farmers’ problems, availability of necessary facilities for agricultural work and promotion of environment-friendly farming practices are among the administration’s priorities.
