CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : Under the leadership of AIIMS Bhopal Executive Director Prof. Ajay Singh, the institute is continuously spreading awareness regarding public health risks. In this context, AIIMS experts have expressed deep concern over the rising incidence of colorectal cancer in India, particularly its increasing prevalence among the youth.
Colorectal cancer affects the large intestine and is now rapidly spreading in India. It was once considered a disease limited to Western countries, but due to unhealthy lifestyles, obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, and low-fiber diets, its cases are rising in India. According to a report, 25% of new patients are under the age of 40.
Symptoms of this disease are not clear in its early stages and are often confused with other illnesses like tuberculosis. Blood in stool, abdominal pain, bloating, and weight loss are key indicators.
At AIIMS Bhopal, the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology operates a GI Oncosurgery Clinic every Monday, where various gastrointestinal surgical issues are addressed.
Prof. Ajay Singh stated, “Colorectal cancer is no longer confined to the elderly. Cases among young people are rising rapidly. The most effective ways to combat this are public awareness, screening, and timely treatment.”
