CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal / Mumbai : July 14, 2025 A complaint has been filed against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for his recent remarks made during the Marathi Pride Rally held in Mumbai. The rally, organized to promote the rights and identity of Marathi-speaking people, witnessed strong speeches and heavy public participation.
The complaint, filed by a local social activist at Dadar Police Station, alleges that Thackeray’s statements during the rally were “provocative and potentially inciting communal disharmony.” The complainant has requested police to take legal action, citing Sections of the IPC related to promoting enmity between groups.
During his speech, Raj Thackeray strongly criticized both the state and central governments for what he described as “neglect of Marathi interests” and accused political parties of using Maharashtra’s resources without giving due representation to local Marathi people in jobs and governance.
The rally, attended by thousands, also saw MNS supporters raising slogans in support of Marathi language, culture, and employment rights. Some banners at the event reportedly carried messages targeting specific communities, which are also under review by authorities.
Mumbai Police have acknowledged receipt of the complaint and stated that they are “examining the video footage and speech transcripts” before proceeding with any action.
This isn’t the first time Raj Thackeray’s fiery speeches have drawn legal scrutiny. Political observers believe the rally was part of a broader strategy by the MNS to reassert itself in Maharashtra’s political landscape ahead of the upcoming civic body elections.
Further developments are awaited.
