/ Agencies: Ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, differences have begun to emerge within the opposition INDIA alliance over Swami Prasad Maurya. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has clearly refused to include Maurya in the alliance, while the Congress appears to favour maintaining dialogue and political contact with him. The development has triggered fresh discussion about coordination between the Congress and the SP in Uttar Pradesh.
After meeting Swami Prasad Maurya, Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam said that social relationships are also important along with political activities. He asked whether people should stop meeting each other because of political differences. Gautam said whom he meets is his personal right. Uttar Pradesh Congress president Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ said the final decision on including any party or leader in the INDIA alliance would be taken by the national leadership. The alliance was formed jointly by top leaders of different parties, so any decision in this regard would also be taken at the top level.
On the other hand, Swami Prasad Maurya hit back at Akhilesh Yadav’s statement, saying he does not need any certificate from Akhilesh to join the alliance. He claimed that he has held talks with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. Maurya said the decision on including him in the alliance would be taken by the Congress leadership. Amid Akhilesh Yadav’s disagreement and the Congress’s different stance, attention is now focused on the top leadership of the INDIA alliance. In the coming days, the situation may become clearer on this issue in relation to seat-sharing and the alliance’s strategy.
