CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Congress has replaced Ajay Rai as Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president and appointed three-time Rampur Khas MLA Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ as the new state chief ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The organisational change is being viewed as part of the party’s broader strategy to strengthen its social and regional outreach in Uttar Pradesh. Mishra, a prominent Brahmin leader and former Congress Legislature Party leader, brings a different political profile to the state leadership. Her appointment is significant as Congress seeks to reconnect with Brahmin voters, a community that was traditionally associated with the party but has shifted substantially towards the BJP over the years. The party has also appointed Saharanpur MP Imran Masood as UPCC working president, strengthening its outreach among Muslim voters in western Uttar Pradesh. Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad have been named senior vice-presidents, while Chaudhary Virendra Singh will lead the Congress Legislature Party in the state. The new team combines Brahmin, Muslim, OBC and Dalit representation. Mishra’s rapport with Samajwadi Party leaders is also being seen as important as Congress and the SP prepare for the 2027 elections and future seat-sharing discussions. The reshuffle signals Congress’s attempt to rebuild its organisation and broaden its electoral coalition in Uttar Pradesh.
