CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Congress in Raipur staged a protest outside Gudhiyari police station, demanding the arrest of BJP workers accused of allegedly assaulting the station house officer (SHO) and vandalising the police station. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday.
According to the report, BJP workers allegedly entered the police station, abused and shoved Inspector Narendra Sahu and damaged office property, including his nameplate. Congress leaders have demanded action against those allegedly involved in the incident.
The protest was led by Raipur city Congress president Srikumar Shankar Menon. Party workers raised slogans against state Home Minister Vijay Sharma and local BJP representatives, alleging that political pressure had delayed arrests. These allegations were made by Congress leaders and have not been independently established.
Congress leaders also demanded that CCTV footage from the police station be made public to help identify those involved. A memorandum was submitted to the police, seeking arrests within 72 hours. Protesters said they would escalate the agitation if action was not taken.
The demonstration continued for around two to three hours amid heavy police deployment. Senior police officials later interacted with the protesters, following which the demonstration ended.
The incident has added to political tensions in Raipur, with the Congress questioning the police response and demanding accountability in the case.
