CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram, who held various significant political and constitutional positions for a long time, Congress members gathered at the Pradesh Congress Headquarters to pay tribute by garlanding his portrait and offering floral respects, remembering his noble contributions.

Congress leaders reflected on Babu Jagjivan Ram’s life, emphasizing that he was not just a politician, but a dedicated voice for India’s oppressed communities and a freedom fighter. As a Dalit leader and a social reformer, his contributions to the nation far exceeded many of his contemporaries.

Babu Jagjivan Ram was a member of Jawaharlal Nehru’s first cabinet, where he served as the youngest minister, and was also a member of the Constituent Assembly of India. Few leaders stressed the importance of social justice as strongly as he did. Over his career, he served in several central ministries.

In 1935, he played a crucial role in the formation of the Indian Depressed Classes League, an organization focused on equality and welfare for the oppressed sections of society. He remained fully committed to rural labor welfare, actively participating in many movements. Later, he joined the Indian National Congress, where he worked passionately across several departments for over forty years.

His birthday is also observed as ‘Samata Diwas’ (Equality Day) to commemorate his fight against social oppression and caste-based discrimination, and to promote his vision of a society rooted in equality and welfare.

On this occasion, several Congress leaders were present, including Director Sanjay Kamle, Ravi Saxena, Avneesh Bundela, Anant Taran, Sheharyar Khan, Director Vikram Chaudhary, Seetasharan Suryavanshi, Syed Muzaffar Ali, and other Congress members.
