CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: In Uttar Pradesh, a constable accused in a rape case has been accused of hatching a conspiracy to avoid prosecution. A police investigation found that the constable had planned to get a cross case registered against the survivor’s father to put pressure on the survivor and her family. It is also alleged that an attempt was made to lure the survivor with money to withdraw the complaint. Police have arrested four accused in the case.

According to the investigation, the constable is accused of working with some people to prepare a strategy to implicate the survivor’s family in order to weaken the rape case registered against him. Under this, another case was registered against the survivor’s father so that pressure could be put on the original complainant’s family. Police say an attempt was also made to make the survivor back out of the case by offering financial inducement. Action was taken after the role of those involved in the entire alleged conspiracy came to light during the investigation. Police have arrested four people and they are being questioned.

According to officials, further legal action will be taken on the basis of evidence linked to the case and the statements of the accused. Police are also trying to find out whether any other people were involved in the conspiracy. The incident has raised questions within the police department over discipline and impartial investigation of crimes involving women. Officials say action will be taken according to rules against anyone found guilty in the investigation.
